Coast GuardLAKELAND -- Mr. Hilbert "Smitty" Smith of Lakeland died of an aneurysm Friday (Sept. 26, 2003) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 75.Born March 25, 1928, in Hazel, Ky., he came here from Cape May, N.J., in 1963. He was retired from the Coast Guard, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Retired Chief Petty Officers Association. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Ruth Smith; daughters, Barbara Lineberger, and Beverly Rousseau, both of Lakeland, and Patricia Ehrle, Luling, La.; son, Gary Smith, Tallahassee; brother, Clifford Smith, Wildwood; sister, Juanita Hart, Paris, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.Rosary will be at 9 this morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
