HERBERT PAUL (HERB) SMITH Wednesday, 26 August 2009 - 12:56pm Herb Smith was born Sept. 3, 1922 and peacefully passed away on Aug. 24, 2009 at the age of 86. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie; daughters, Linda and Judy (Gerry) of Winnipeg, Man., Diane, and Geraldine; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Edith, of Dryden, Ont. He was predeceased by son, Gary; his parents; and brothers, Ginter, Hank, and Gerald. In 1939, Herb left home to serve in the WWII and remained in service overseas until his return in 1947. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant Major. Herb later served on the Fort Frances Fire Department and retired as captain in 1982. Dad enjoyed all outdoor activities and fishing was his passion. Cremation has taken place, and a private interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, Ont.
