COKER Herbert Lee "Red" Morris, age 80, of Coker, died Sept. 6, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2:30 p.m. today at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Cain and Rev. Brannon Pinion officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar David and Lulleen Cook Morris; his brothers, David Douglas Morris and Harold Patton Morris; and his great-grandson, Koby Garrett Townsend.Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jimmie Lee Brown Morris of Coker; his daughter, Karen Morris Gresham (Thomas) of Coker; his sons, James Frank Morris and Dennis Ray Morris, both of Coker; his grandchildren, Kristin Townsend of Northport, Kerri Coley of Coker, Jesse Coley of Tuscaloosa, Dallas West of Northport, and Jared Gresham and Jonah Gresham, both of Coker; and his great-grandson, Karsen Joshua Cooley.Herbert Morris was born October 12, 1930, and raised in Coker, Alabama. He was an avid sportsman and happiest when he was outside working around the home or tending to the various strains of game chickens that he bred. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his passion was hunting deer. He was an expert hunter and marksman and shared his skills with his family and others. He also enjoyed watching Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a no-nonsense man and a hard worker, yet he kept a sense of humor. He was a generous man, and his family benefitted from his wisdom and advice. He retired from Reichhold Chemicals, Inc. after 32 years.Pallbearers will be Douglas Morris, George Morris, Jr., Tim Hitt, Hunter Hitt, Sammy Channell, and Ed Guin.Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors of Sam Sutton Road and Mt. Olive community, Dr. James B.
