PARKER, Herbert Charles, Capt. RHLI In his 90th year, in Burington, Ontario on May 11, 2006, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinsons disease. Beloved husband of Eileen Jerry-Cooper and loving father of Susan Bronson (Ray Draker) of Hamilton, Ontario and Gordon (Violet) of Ottawa. Beloved grandfather of Julie Bronson of Hamilton, Robert Parker (Verna Lynn) of Ottawa, Amy McLean (Geoff) and Laura Vail (Robert) of PEI. Great grandfather of 6 great grandchildren. Predeceased in 1991 by first wife and the mother of his children, Doris Mildred Grooms. Herb was born in 1916 in Burke's Falls, Ontario, one of 5 children to George and Lillian (Simpson) Parker. During the depression, his family moved to Toronto and at the age of 14 he went to work to help support the family during those difficult times. His formal education ceased at that time, which was remarkable given his later achievements. He served his country proudly, first as a fighting member of Canada's army in Europe during the Second World War from 1943 to 1946. Then as a diplomat from 1952 to 1981, where he and Doris served in Sweden, Finland, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Jamaica, Hong Kong, the United States and England. Following his retirement, he enjoyed the company of family and friends at his cottage near Bancroft, Ontario and travelling abroad with Eileen. He was a proud member of the RHLI Officers Association and of the Detroit Lodge, AF&AM. A memorial service may be held in the near future. Friends and relatives will be notified. Donations to the Parkinsons Society would be appreciated. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 5/27/2006 - 5/28/2006
