Obituary of Henry-C. Fortier


SANDWICH - Henry C. Fortier died Sunday at Falmouth Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Doris F. (Bittner) Fortier for 59 years. Mr. Fortier was born in New Bedford, where he was a former resident and a communicant of St. Mary Church. He lived in Sandwich for the past 18 years. He was a dental technician and owned his own business, Fortier Dental Laboratories in Hyannis. He later worked at his son's business, Dentaltech Laboratories in Hyannis. A World War II Army veteran, he held the rank of staff sergeant and served in the battles of Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and North Apennines. He received five battle stars, a Good Conduct medal and a European-African-Middle Eastern theater campaign medal. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Scott H. Fortier of West Bridgewater and Paul M. Fortier of Sandwich; three brothers, Norman Fortier of South Dartmouth, Raymond Fortier of Orleans and Daniel Fortier of New Bedford; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Mary Church, New Bedford. Burial is in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. CORRECTION: Burial for Henry C. Fortier of Sandwich, who died July 10, was changed to Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, and not Pine Grove Cemetery in New Bedford.
