Obituary of Helen-Yeager Carter


CARTER Helen Yeager Carter, 82, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Wednesday, May 9th, 2007. Born in Jersey Shore, PA. on March 23, 1925, she was married 57 years to William Edward Carter. Helen was a surgical nurse for the VA in Lake City, FL during WWII when she met and married her husband. She was a volunteer for the Suicide Prevention Center. She was a member of the Riverside Women's Club, the Riverside Garden Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. As an active member of the Ortega United Methodist Church, she supported the youth organization, choir, prayer group, bible studies, and other ministries. Helen loved flowers, music, painting, walks on the beach, and flying. While living in Lake City, she attained her pilot's license and traveled extensively with her husband throughout the world. To know Helen was to love her, for she touched the lives of all whom she encountered. The love that she brought will never leave us, for the essence of the soul lingers on. We are all fortunate to have many wonderful memories of such a beautiful woman. She will always be remembered as the “foundation” of our family for many generations to come. We will miss her dearly. We love you mother! She was preceded in death by her son, William Edward Carter II. She is survived by her husband, four children; Valerie Carter Mitchell and her husband, Felix, Gregory Carter and his wife Mary Jane, Robin Carter Grace and her husband Joe, Ericka Carter Kauppila and her husband, Terry and her twelve grandchildren: Felix Mitchell II (Sharon), Helena Feuerborn (Thomas), Carter Mitchell, Blair-Elizabeth Mitchell, Clayton Carter, Kevin Carter, Kimberly Carter, Miriah Grace, JT Grace, Stetson Grace, Alexa Grace and Cynthia Kauppila. She was also a mentor and mother figure to Steve Hyers and his wife Debra and their children, Kristen and Kaleigh. Memorial service will be held on Monday, June 4th, at 7 PM at Ortega United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Music Ministry of Ortega United Methodist Church, 4807 Roosevelt Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32210.
