BENNINGTON -- The Mass of resurrection for Mrs. Helen R. Hurley was celebrated from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church Tuesday morning. The celebrant was the Rev. James Preskenis. Serving as cantor was Monica Murray. Acolytes for the Mass were Len Anzivino, Joseph Anton and Francis Sausville. Organist Donald McMahon accompanied the congregation in singing “Here I Am, Lord,” “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagles’ Wings.” Soloist Monica Murray sang “Ave Maria” as the communion hymn of reflection. The pall was placed upon Mrs. Hurley’s casket by her granddaughters Jennifer Daniels and Erin Sharpe. A large wooden cross was placed on the casket by her daughter Julie Shea. The Old Testament reading, from the Book of Wisdom, was read by a grandson, Robert Shea. The New Testament reading, from the Book of Revelation, was read by a grandson, Daniel Shea. The offertory gifts were presented at the altar by Erin Sharpe and Jennifer Daniels. A prayer service preceded the funeral Mass at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home. En route to the cemetery, the funeral cortege paused at Mrs. Hurley’s lifelong home on Depot Street. Burial with committal prayers took place at the family lot in Hinsdillville Cemetery with Father Preskenis presiding. Serving as bearers were grandsons Robert Shea, Daniel Shea, Ronald Daniels and Lin Sharpe. Honorary bearers were Thomas Ryan and Howard Shea. Mrs. Hurley, 93, died April 29, 2006, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
