Helen Odell Bratten Williams COLUMBIA, SC-- Services for Helen Odell Bratten Williams will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, with entombment in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home in advance of the service. Memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran, 52 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Mrs. Williams died on Sunday, June 14, 2009. Born in Plymouth, NC, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Aileen Bratten. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1939 as valedictorian of her class. Following this, she obtained her nursing degree from Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh, NC, where she was salutatorian of her class. In 1974, Mrs. Williams was the recipient of the SC Lung Association Nursing Award for outstanding service and contribution to lung disease care. After her retirement in 1987, she was able to enjoy her flowers and gardening, especially azaleas. She was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Naomi Circle and Leisure Timers. Surviving are her son, Harry S. Williams and wife, Betty of Goode, VA; grandson, Tim F. Williams and wife, Valerie of New Prospect, SC; grandson, Robert Williams of Winston-Salem, NC; granddaughter, Summer Williams Simpson and husband, Matt of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Cristi Whitaker and husband, Stacy of Kernersville, NC; granddaughter, Kimberly Mabe of Walnut Cove, NC; dear brother-in-law, Clifford Frymier of Plymouth, NC; niece, Melody F. Godfrey and husband, Jimmy of Candler, NC; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her son, Carlos F. "Buddy" Williams; her grandson, Jeff Steven Williams; two sisters, Claudia Bratten Crandall and Mary Gordon "Gordie" Bratten Frymier; and nephew, Gary Frymier. www.caughmanharmanfuneralhome.com.
