Mrs. Helen Mary More June 19, 1917 - January 16, 2009 Helen Mary More Helen passed away peacefully at St. Ann’s Home on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 91 years of age. Mom was born on June 19, 1917 in Lashburn, SK to James and Mary Moore. She had one older brother James Edward. Upon completion of her schooling, Mom’s desire was to enter nursing school. She first had to fulfill her parents’ wishes to complete her Grade 12 in piano & organ from the Toronto Conservatory of Music. To accomplish this, Mom traveled between Lashburn and Saskatoon by train for lessons with Lyle Gustin. Mom entered training at St. Paul’s School of Nursing in 1939. Her training was interrupted for six months due to a ruptured appendix, which delayed her graduation until 1943. Mom’s nursing career took her to Peace River, AB, Turtleford, SK and then home to Lashburn. Mom married Herbert More on April 7, 1947 in Lashburn, SK. While raising her family, Mom continued nursing and became Matron of the Lashburn Union Hospital. Mom’s gift of music led to her involvement in many community activities. She was a member of Eastern Star. She was the organist at St. James United Church for years and played in a local band “The Saints.” In 1969 our family moved to Saskatoon. Initially Mom did private duty nursing then began long-term care nursing at St Joseph’s Home, followed by St. Ann’s Home until she retired in 1982. In Saskatoon Mom attended Mount Royal United Church and was the pianist. Mom’s focus was always her family - her son and her “four girls.” As Mom aged and her health began to change, she moved into St. Ann’s Senior Citizen’s Village, first living in St. Ann’s Place and later St. Ann’s Home. Although frail in body she was strong in mind and spirit. Mom received loving care and comfort from all at St. Ann’s. We, her family, will be forever grateful to the St. Ann’s community and to Dr. A.J. Harrington for the wonderful care provided. Predeceased by: Mary Moore 1959; James Moore 1963; Edward Moore 1989; Herbert More 1999. Lovingly remembered by children: Jim; Lorraine (Gary) Thiessen; Janice; Maureen (Mike) Marsh; Carol. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren: Shelley (Don) Revering and Jenna, Joshua, Katelynn, Mitchell; Kelly (Christine) Thiessen and Ty, Katherine; Jeffrey (Andrea) Marsh and Taya; Kerry Marsh; Morgan (Scott) Brandle; Brennan Piot; Andrew Piot.
