Helen Mary Dodd, 92, passed Nov. 04, 2009 at her son's home in Bolingbrook, IL. She lived in Port Orange, for the past 30 years. Born Feb. 05, 1917 in Galien, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, son, Charles, sister and brother-in-law, Roy & Carmen Foster, and beautiful granddaughter, Mary. She is survived by children, Jack & Linda Dodd from Bolingbrook, IL and Jean & William Weybright from Lakeland, FL; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; three brothers, Charles & Rachel Longfellow from Port Orange, Burl & Ellenor Longfellow from Baroda, MI, Tom & Pauline Longfellow from Galien, MI; and loving nieces & nephews. Helen was a faithful member of First Baptist Church - Harbor Oaks in Port Orange, where she was loved by many for over 30 years. During those years, Helen served on numerous church committees. She sang in the church choir, and loved her Sunday school class. She also served as the church contact for the Southern Baptist Convention's pastor and missionary's retirement support system. Her Pastor, George Robertson said that Helen was not only a faithful church member, but a good personal friend of he and his wife. She served on the Pastor Search Committee which called us to FBC-HO some 28 years ago. Helen also served as a volunteer health care worker for 24 years. she served for over 20,000 hours. She was elected to the Halifax Medical Center Auxiliary, Inc. Hall of Fame Dec. 01, 2001. She also loved and collected elephants, and shells that she and her husband hand picked from the ocean. Helen gave love and comfort to all who knew her. She will be remembered and missed by family & friends.
