->FARMINGTON -- Helen L. Gray, 95, of Farmington, died Wednesday night, March 8, 2006, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington.She was born Jan. 22, 1911, in New Sharon, a daughter of Archie and Helen (Moore) Russell. She received her education in New Sharon schools and on Aug. 24, 1937, married Elvet Gray. He died in 1992.She was a housewife most of her life and enjoyed caring for her family, gardening and reading.She was a member of the Old South Congregational Church in Farmington and was proud to have been elected as a deaconess of the church.Always a humble contributing member to her community, she was one of the first volunteers at Franklin Memorial Hospital and worked 31 continuous years, never missing her Monday duties in her volunteer capacity.She was also a member of the Farmington O.E.S. and the Garden Club.Helen cared a great deal about her grandchildren and was always there for them.She will be missed by her family and her extended family at the Pierce House on Main Street in Farmington where she made her home since May of 2001.She is survived by two stepsons, Ralph M. Gray and his wife, Audrey, of Etwoah, N.C., and Vernon E. Gray and his wife, Dorothy, of Farmingdale; one brother, Richard Russell and his wife, Ramona, of Farmington; two sisters, Marjorie Blanchard of Farmington and Sarah Rogers of Searcy, Ark.; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Gray of Farmington; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Charles Grant, who died in 1992; a daughter, Beverly Rackliffe who died in 1999; a brother, Frank H. Russell; and two sisters, Vivian Hopkins and Dorothy Fulton.Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon from Old South Congregational Church, Main Street, Farmington.Following services, all are welcome to attend a family reception in the church vestry. Family and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road (U.S. Route 2 and Route 27), Farmington.Those who desire may give gifts in her memory to either the Maine Chapter Multiple Sclerosis Association, 170 US Route 1, Suite 200, Falmouth, ME 04105 or to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 30, Topsham, ME 04086.
