TROY Helen Leona Gould, resident of Van Rensselaer Manor, Troy, passed away on January 2, 2004 at the Samaritan Hospital, Troy. Born on May 9, 1905 in Pittstown, Rensselaer County, she was a resident of the county during her entire life span of 98 years. She spent her early years on a farm near Tomhannock, one of four children of Frank and Lena Dearstyne Mason. Her siblings, who predeceased her, were Stephen Mason, Clarence Mason and Ethel Mason Madigan. In 1926, she was married to Daniel Albert Gould, son of George and Mabel Card Gould, who also were early settlers of Pittstown. Daniel Albert Gould passed away in 1961. Helen Leona Gould and Daniel Albert Gould, residents of the Sycaway section of Troy for many years, were the parents of John C. Gould, now of Brevard, N.C. and Norman Albert Gould who predeceased his mother in 1986. Helen Leona Gould is survived by seven grandchildren, who are Rev. Brian Gould, Duane Gould, Evan Gould, Kevin Gould, Kristine Gould, Karen Dressler and Kathy Slosberg. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren, most all of whom still reside in eastern New York State. Surviving as well are daughters-in-law, Lynne Gould of Troy, Katherine Gould of Glens Falls and Sally Gould of Brevard, N.C. An active Methodist all of her life, Helen Leona Gould became a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Eagle Mills when that congregation merged with Memorial Methodist Church of Sycaway in recent years. There will be no public services. Memorial gifts may be given at the discretion of family and friends; a memorial gathering to celebrate her life will be scheduled by the family.
