LUCAS, Helen Isabel (Wood) Born July 4, 1928, passed away suddenly at home August 13, 2010. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Dudley, she leaves behind her loving son, Michael (Kate) and step-children Lorrie (Ben) and George (Jeannie). She was a loving grandmother to Alexandra, Stephen, Krista (Tom), Morrison (Melanie) and Myra, and a great-grandmother to Phoebe, Andrew, Elliott and Athena. Helen was born in Winnipeg and raised in Saskatoon. After graduating from the Univ. of Saskatchewan, she moved to Vancouver with several close friends in 1951. She and Dudley met while working together at John Oliver High School, and married in 1955. They enjoyed many happy years together, filled with good friends, travel, and time at Shuswap Lake. Helen loved good company, and was a gracious hostess and wonderful cook who opened her home or cabin at the Lake to welcome anyone who wished to visit or needed a place to stay for a while. She will be remembered with love, and will be greatly missed. A service will be held at Ryerson United Church in Kerrisdale at 2 pm on August 26. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
