Helen Irene Smith, 78, widow of William George Smith, of 623 Old Ashbury Road, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow and Elizabeth Simpson Simpson. Survivors: Sons, George W. Smith of Anderson, Tommy E. Smith of Lowdesville, and Billy R. Smith of the home; daughters, Cassie A. Smith and Shirley I. Smith, both of the home, Sandra K. Fountain and Donna S. Wheatly, both of Anderson; and five grandchildren. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at The McDougald Funeral Home. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
