STEPHENS Helen Hidry Stephens, 97, lifelong resident of St. Augustine passed away August 25, 2002 at Bayview Care Center. Mrs. Stephens, prominent church and civic leader was born November 16, 1904, in St. Augustine to Alice Armstrong Hindry and Rev. Louis Fitz-James Hindry, rector of Trinity Episcopal Parrish 1904-1936. After graduating from St. Augustine High School, she completed two years of graduate studies in Virginia and Connecticut. In 1925 while an employee at The At. Augustine Record, Co. she was honored, by being chosen to be Miss St. Augustine. Surviving family members are her daughter, Marilyn Stephens Peyton, her son, Malcolm L. Stephens, Jr., grandchildren Susan Stephens Conway, Lisa A. Reddoch, Malcolm L. Stephens, III, and John Stephens Peyton, great-grandchildren, Ashley Rebecca Conway, Miles Stephens Conway, Maggie Stephens and Duke A. Reddoch, II, nieces, Patricia Hindry Farrows and Helen Thompson Tucker. There is a Helen Hindry Stephens Memorial Fund at Trinity Episcopal Church, 215 St. George, St. Augustine. Funeral services will be held at 10 is Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church followed by a reception in the Parrish Hall. Craig Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of arrangements.
