Funeral for Helen Francis Turner “Big Mama” Grubbs, 101, will be Saturday May 1, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Stephenson officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Grubbs died April 29, 2004 at Decatur Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 11, 1903, in Decatur to Edward Halsey Turner and Mary Elizabeth Gardner Turner. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and her life was devoted to helping her family, friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Brown Grubbs, a son, Billy Brown Grubbs, and a grandson, Harris Edward Newsom. Survivors include one son, Edward Turner Grubbs; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Bess” Newsom; one grandson, William Brown Grubbs; two great-grandsons, William Edward Newsom and William Turner Grubbs; three great granddaughters, Victoria Susan Newsom Puckett, Mary Elizabeth Grubbs and Sara Virginia Grubbs and one great-great granddaughter, Mattie Elizabeth Puckett. Pallbearers will be William Newsom, William Grubbs, Robert Puckett, Jeff Goodwin, Bryce McCreless, H.C. McMurtrie, Ray Norris and Ewell Russell.
