NEW ALBANY -- Helen Frances (Stallings) Hale, 83, died Thursday, November 20, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Amy, in Indianapolis, IN. The daughter of the late A. Lowell and Frances (Johnson) Stallings, Helen was born May 8, 1920, in Evansville, IN. She grew up on a farm in Posey County, IN, just outside New Harmony. She was president of the New Albany High School Class of 1938, a 1946 graduate of Purdue University and a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Helen served as president of the Amaranth Woman's Club, the Silver Hills Alpha Club and a founding member of the Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in New Albany. Helen is survived by her husband, Thomas Farris Hale of New Albany; two daughters, Amy Windisch and Frances Barrow, both of Indianapolis; three sons, John Hale of New Albany, Stephen Hale of Bloomington, IN, and Philip Hale of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Robert Stallings of Evansville and Eugene Stallings of New Harmony, IN; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Army Captain L. Richard Anderson, who died in 1944; a daughter, Judith Regueiro; and a son, Thomas Hale. Memorial visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday at Generations Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, 47150). A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2003, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in New Albany.
