Obituary of Helen-Felisko Miller


MILLER Helen Felisko Miller, was born October 21,1917 in Doche', Czechos-lovakia, a farming community outside of Prague. When World War ll threatened, her family sent her to her aunt's house in Bridgeport. There she waited out the war and learned English, held a job in several factories and got a job cooking for Ambassador Sam Carp's family. Her fame as a cook began to spread and she cooked for many dignitaries of the time including the visiting Molotov family. She met Stephen Felisko, an owner of several automotive gas stations in Bridgeport and also a tool and die maker at Bridgeport Brass in 1942. They were married in 1944 and she had a son, Richard Stephen Felisko in 1945. She became a naturalized citizen after seven years of waiting, learning English and passing a test, on November 21, 1944. In 1948, the family moved to Daytona Beach. While there Michael Felisko was born in 1955. Retiring in 1971, they resided in Ormond Beach. When her husband Stephen died in 1973, she continued there with her family and gardening. She remarried in 1975 to prominent real estate businessman J. Robert Miller of Daytona Beach Realty. During those years, they were a member of the Elks, Shriners, Ladies Oriental Shrine, Halifax Masonic lodge, Khenset Court #52, and the Daytona Board of Realtors and were very philanthropic with organizations including, Sheriff's Boys Ranch, Harry-Anna Trust Fund and Hospice of Volusia & Flagler Counties.
