->AUGUSTA -- Helen passed Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at 12:48 p.m. She was the daughter of the predeceased Maynard and Edith Austin.Helen had lived in many places. Born Jan. 20, 1943, she grew up in Washington and had resided in Augusta for many years now. Helen's life was a rocky journey at times, but one to be proud of. She was the strongest person anyone in her family has known. She was "the rock" of her family and kept everyone together. She had strong family values. Her family always came first. She taught everyone in her family things, such as riding a bike with no training wheels, school work, cooking, the first row of crocheting, respect, strength, how to give, and how to love. After raising her own children, she didn't stop -- she helped raise her grandchildren and made herself needed. She always bragged about how many beautiful and smart grandchildren and great-grandchildren she had. Helen touched so many people in such a positive way. She had a heart of gold. She would give what she didn't have if she could. She cared for everyone no matter what.Helen was a woman of many trades. In her younger days, she was a certified nursing assistant in Rockland; she worked in factories; she did odd jobs with her husband, which included greening and flea markets; she worked in beano tents at fairs all over Maine in the summer; and she worked at St. Augustine School in the after-care program with children.Helen also had many hobbies, all of which she was great at. She enjoyed playing beano, especially when she won. She loved crocheting winter items, baby sets, doilies and dolls for people. She liked writing letters to her friends and family. She loved to cook for her family. She liked playing board games with her grandchildren, and putting together puzzles. Helen was great at everything she did. She was smart, strong and funny, among many other kind things.Helen is survived by four children, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her son, Kenneth Hall Jr. and his wife, Jenny; and her daughters, Amelia Grierson and her husband, Dean, Sue Luce and her husband, Larry, and Rose Hall and her partner, Duane. Her grandchildren, from oldest to youngest, are Crystal Woodcock and her husband, Shane, and children Danielle, Desiree, Kaylee and Chance, Stacey Hall, Kristina Hall and her daughter, Isabella, Kendra Swails and her husband, Jason, and daughter Melliah, Whitney Hall and her son, Nicholas, Jesse Grierson, Daniel Hall, Brittany Grierson, Jamie Luce and Cody Luce. She is also survived by cousin Barbara; brother-in-law Jerry and his wife, Francis; and her cat with his tongue always out, Gizmo.Helen was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Neal Hall Sr.; her brother "Buddy"; and several half-brothers and sisters. She loved every single one of these people mentioned in special ways, as they all do her. She will be missed dearly.
