VALLEY FALLS Helen E. (Petteys) Briggs, 96, a longtime resident, died peacefully at her State Street home with the support of all her loving family, Tuesday evening, July 6, 2004 following a short illness. Born in Greenwich, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Nettie M. (Case) Petteys and the wife for over 56 years of Raymond H. Briggs who died in December of 1982. Helen and Raymond were married December 31, 1926. Mrs Briggs was a graduate of Greenwich High School and a homemaker for many years. During the 66 years she resided in Valley Falls, Mrs. Briggs was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the centralization of the Hoosic Valley School District. She, along with several others, was a founder of the Hoosic Valley P.T.A. Mrs Briggs was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and a member of many local social clubs and charitable organizations. In her quiet time she enjoyed hobbies of gardening, sewing and cooking. Her survivors include three daughters, Helene Briggs of San Francisco, Lorraine (William) Agan and Beverly Moore all of Valley Falls; two sons, Walden Briggs of Raymertown, and Wayne (Carol) Briggs of Crystal Lake, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Briggs of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Gordon K. Petteys of Greenwich; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Briggs was predeceased by a son, the late Ramon Briggs. A funeral and committal service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church, located on State Street in Valley Falls with Rev. Bill Pattison, officiating. Burial will be private at the Greenwich Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Friday, July 9, 2004 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions if desired may be made to the Valley Falls United Methodist Church, State Street, Valley Falls, N.Y. 12185 of to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 in memory of Helen Briggs. Funeral service details are under the direction of the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 N.Y. Route 7, located in Raymertown.
