Helen Davis, born in 1921, spouse of Burton Davis, daughter of William and Florence, died. Please consult the obituary here:
Helen (Mimi) Joyce Davis was finally called to her Heavenly home on Feb. 22, 2008. She passed away peacefully in her home with her lov-ing caregivers at her side. For over ten years Mimi waged a courageous battle against her illness, never complaining nor asking why it was to be. She faced her death with the same grace and poise that she lived her life. Mimi was born to William and Florence Doyle on Dec. 15, 1921 in Muskogee, Okla., the youngest of nine children. She was blessed with an Irish-Catholic family who taught her the value of love and laughter. She spent much of her childhood in New Orleans, La., where she met and married Burton Davis in 1942. Burton was career Air Force and they lived in many places, from Oklahoma to Holland to Ohio to Florida. Mimi complemented her husband's military career, always happy to help when needed. She served many years as an officer of the Officers' Wives Club; writing, directing and starring in many of the shows that brought laughter into the lives of so many military families. She was involved with local "Little Theatre" groups, always comfortable on stage. She starred in such plays as "Oklahoma" and "Barefoot in the Park." She was at her best in front of an audience. She was gifted with a beautiful voice and an even more beautiful personality. I think it would be fair to say that everyone who ever met her remembered her, and most loved her. Mimi shared her love for life with everyone she met. She was always ready with a joke or a song to bring a smile to the faces of her friends and family. She always put others needs before her own, never tiring of caring for others. She was the wife, the mother, the grandmother, the friend whom we all aspire to be. Mimi was preceded in death by her husband Burton, her parents and all her brothers and sisters as well as her son, Dale. There must be a wonderful reunion in Heaven now that she has come home. She is survived by her three children, Greg and wife Elaine Davis of Massachusetts, Bruce and wife Kim Davis of Georgia and daughter Gayle and husband Steve Hill of Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nathan, Nick, Brian, Kelly, Mandee, Courtney, Bradley and Justin, and her great-grandchildren, Gillian, David, Erin, Clare, Tyler, Chandler and Riley. And last, but perhaps most important of all are the wonderful, loving friends who took care of our Mimi, and made her last ten years the best possible, Ursula, Shanna, Beth, Deanna and the many others who crossed our paths. They cared for Mimi with respect and love and for that we will be forever grateful. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at McLaughlin Mortuary from 6 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. with Father John Kelly officiating. McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave. S.E., Fort Walton Beach, is entrusted with arrangements.
