Helen Adams, born in 1914, spouse of George-R. Adams, daughter of Joseph and Anna, mother of Robert C, Richard J and Mass, died on May 8, 2005 at 91 years old.
BRATTLEBORO -- Helen V. Adams, 91, died peacefully, Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.She was born Feb. 3, 1914, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Hildebrandt) Vollmer in Brooklyn, N.Y.She was raised and spent the first part of her life in Long Island, N.Y. After graduation from high school in Long Island, she attended secretarial school at Scudder College.In December 1935, she married George R. Adams. She worked in the capacity of secretary and paralegal with her husband in his law practice. Upon her husband's retirement in the 1980s, they relocated from Sag Harbor, N.Y., to Marco Island, Fla.Mrs. Adams was always very active with her church. She was a member of the Southampton, N.Y., Hospital Auxiliary. She was a stamp collector and a bridge player, and kept lifelong friendships with many of her Sunday school classmates. She was blessed with a gentle and kind spirit, leaving a loving legacy with all who knew her.Her most cherished treasures, however, were her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren who all treasure her in turn. Mrs. Adams is survived by two sons, Robert C. Adams and his wife Pauline of North Carolina, and Richard J. Adams and his wife Carol of Bernardston, Mass.; nine grandchildren, Richard Adams Jr., Cindy Gow, Krista Blaisdell, Kip Friedman, Cathy Russo, Susan Fairchilds, Paul Adams, Jennifer Nix and George Adams; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1991, and a grandson, Bobby Adams, in 1977.Funeral services for Mrs. Adams will be held on Thursday at the West Brattleboro Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Woodbury Cemetery in Woodbury, Conn. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
