Hazel Clelen (Davis) Lee was born on December 12, 1917, in the Rader community, Niangua, Missouri. Hazel was born to Junius and Ethel (Stogsdill) Davis. She was the oldest of 11 children. Hazel attended Eureka School. She spent her freshman year at Conway High, her sophomore and junior years were at Niangua, and for her senior year, she went back to Conway High School and graduated in 1937. On Christmas day of 1940, she was married to Floyd Franklin Lee. They resided at a farm in the Rader community. Floyd and Hazel had two daughters, Nancy Elizabeth and Kathryn Marie. Hazel started teaching in 1938 at Eureka School and began taking classes at S.M.S. She taught at Eureka from 1938 to 1940. During these terms, she taught many of her siblings and family members. Hazel was instrumental in writing the curriculum, selecting materials and testing for the new program. She taught there for four years.
