BROOKS, Mrs. Harriett Burch, age 82, of Gainesville, died September 10, 2006, in Gainesville, Fla. Born May 24, 1924 in Deland, Fla., she was the daughter of William A. and Mary (Cadwadler) Burch. She earned her Nursing Degree from Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Ga. and her Public Health Degree from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C. She started her nursing career at Lykes Memorial Hospital, Brooksville. She was also the County Nurse for the Citrus County Health Department, Director of Nurses for Leon County Health Department and last worked for the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services before retiring. She moved to Gainesville from Brooksville in 2001. She was a strong advocate of public health and geriatric care. She was a member of Eden Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Earl Brooks, who died on February 6, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Owens and husband, John of Sopchoppy, Fla., Susan Brooks Gair and husband Bill of Gainesville, Fla.; sister, Marion Knapp of Debary, Fla.; four grandchildren, Lyndsey Marie Gair and Lauren Nicole Gair, both of Gainesville, Fla., Wendy Louise Porto of East Ridge, Tenn., Kathy Porto Veal of Ringgold, Ga.; and three great grandchildren. The Service of Remembrance for Mrs. Harriet Burch Brooks will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at the Eden Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Lake Lindsey Cemetery.
