Obituary of Harriet E. Fleming


LEOMINSTER -- Harriet E. (Spaulding) Fleming, 88, formerly of Myrtle Street and Chapman Place, died Saturday, April 8, at River Terrace Healthcare Center, Lancaster, after a long illness. She was born in Leominster on April 16, 1917, the daughter of the late Walter H. and Harriet E. (Christman) Spaulding and was a 1936 graduate of Leominster High School. After graduation, Mrs. Fleming worked at the former Leominster Gas and Light, and later at Allen’s Department Store, until her retirement. She took great pleasure in providing care to her family and friends and thoroughly enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Leominster. Mrs. Fleming is survived by her daughter, Joan E. Judy and son-in-law, Thomas J. Judy of Leominster; three grandchildren, W. Scott Freeman and his wife Teresa of Newport, N.C., Tracy Freeman of Portsmouth, N.H. and Toni Davis and her husband Mike of York, Maine; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Her husband of 63 years, Donald W. Fleming, died in January 2004. She was also predeceased by her sister, E. Marion McPhee; and brother, Lloyd Spaulding. FLEMING -- On April 8, Harriet E. (Spaulding) Fleming, 88, of Leominster. After cremation, a private memorial service will be held at the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
