<!-- FH = Island Cremations -->Helen Catherine Hanlon (Peters)Merritt Island, FLHelen Catherine Hanlon (Peters) passed away June 16, 2013, on Merritt Island, Florida at the age of 87. Helen was born November 14, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio. The daughter of William and Catherine (Moran) Peters, Helen had one brother, Robert. Her parents and brother preceded her in death. Helen married Thomas George Hanlon October 4, 1947, and lived in Cleveland until their retirement to Florida in 1980. At the time of their marriage, Helen worked at Cleveland Transit Systems, leaving that position with the birth of their first child. Helen spent the next years raising their family in West Park, where she was actively involved in St. Patrick Parish. With the last of their four children in school, Helen returned to the workforce, securing a position at National City Bank. She was employed at National City's Terminal Tower branch for ten years, until retirement took them south. Not one to sit idly for too long, Helen returned to work at Barnett Bank where she worked another ten years until her husband's illness required her time at home. He died in 1991 and Helen moved to Merritt Island, where she resided happily until her passing. Helen was a long-time volunteer at Divine Mercy School. Miss Helen, as the students called her, was especially proficient with computers and loved sharing those skills with her classes. Helen is survived by four children, Thomas (Nana) of Arizona, Timothy (Anthony Klatt) of Los Angeles, James (Catherine) of Dallas and Christine McDanels (Steven) of Rockledge, Florida. Helen will be missed by her six grandchildren, Christian, Thomas, Robert (Abby) and Kelly Hanlon, and Caitlin and Jennifer McDanels. Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, June 20, at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Merritt Island. Helen was especially devoted to West Side Catholic Center and supported its work with the homeless for many years. Donations to West Side Catholic Center, 3135 Lorain Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44113, in Helen's memory, would have been particularly meaningful to her.
