MILLER, HELEN ELIZABETH BRUUN, Helen B. Miller died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at the age of 87. She was born May 18, 1915, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Georg Theodor and Bertha Servanek Bruun. She was graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1935 and received her Masters Degree in history in 1937. She taught school in the Pittsburgh area for several years before she married H. Ellsworth Miller on June 28, 1941. She began her married life in Dayton, OH, and they later resided in Sylvania, OH. In Dayton she was a Deaconess at Westminster Presbyterian Church, active in her children's Parent Teacher Associations, and in other church, school, and civic organizations in both Dayton and Sylvania. She moved to Winter Park, FL, in 1959 where she served in many volunteer capacities at the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando and in other civic activities in the Winter Park area. She taught English and Latin American History at Winter Park High School from 1961 until 1981. As a teacher, she was sought after for her ability to impart her love of knowledge to her students. She was most recently a member of the Winter Park Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Woman's Club of Winter Park (where she served as recording secretary and parliamentarian for many years), a member of the University Club of Winter Park, a past member and President of the Altrusa Club, a past member and President of the Lords & Ladies Garden Club, and had worked as a Board member with the YWCC as a counselor to young women. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, H. Ellsworth (Herb) Miller, of Winter Park; two daughters, Margaret Anne (Peggy) Schuckers of Corning, NY, and Mary Lou Miller Wagstaff of Clearwater, FL; two grandchildren, John Miller (Jay) Wagstaff and Sarah Margaret Wagstaff, both of Clearwater, FL; one brother, George T. Bruun, Jr., of Dover, OH; one sister, Agnes B. Evans, of Pittsburgh, PA; four nephews and three nieces. Contributions in her memory may be made to The Woman's Club of Winter Park, 419 South Interlachen Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32790. A memorial service will be conducted by The Reverend David F. Judd, from Winter Park Presbyterian Church at 2:30PM Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Duxbury Hall, The Mayflower Retirement Community, 1620 Mayflower Court, Winter Park, FL. Carey Hand Cox-Parker of Winter Park, 407-647-1942, is handling the arrangements. Burial will be at the Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA.
