Helen Coyne Adams, 87, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Putnam County Hospital, Carmel, NY. Mrs. Adams was born on February 1, 1919 in the Bronx. She attended Holy Rosary School in the Bronx and Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY. Helen was married in 1936 to Paul E. Gransbury of Walton, NY, who predeceased her in 1957. She married Frederick "Bucky" Adams in 1958. He predeceased her in 1992. She is survived by three children, Paul E. (RuthAnne) Gransbury, Sr., Carlsbad, CA; Loraine (Kenneth) Renzier, Holmes, NY, and Colleen (Peter) Moran, Canandaigua, NY. Her son, Gary A. Gransbury, predeceased her in October 2000. His widow Janet survives. Also surviving are her stepchildren, Dolores (Joseph) Benante, Austin, TX, and Fred (Ethel) Adams, Jr., Carmel, NY, and two sisters, Elizabeth Carlen of Somers, NY, and Jeanne Sarles of Milwood, NY, twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Helen was active in local politics for many years. She served as Assessor for the Town of Kent, and was a member of the Kent Republican Club. She also served as Chairperson for the Grievance Committee for the Town of Kent, was an honorary member of the Kent Rod and Gun Club, an auxiliary member of Kent Fire District 1, and served as Chairperson of the Election of Fire Commissioners. She was also a member of the Kent Historical Society, and the local Garden Club, winning many ribbons for her roses. She also worked at the Board of Election polls for 48 years. Helen was an avid sportswoman, who enjoyed deer season immensely, hunting for many years with her sister Jeanne. She was a very family oriented person, and especially enjoyed reminiscing about her childhood with her sister, Betty. Her hobbies included gardening, ceramics, and latch hooking rugs. She made many ceramic items, and 58 rugs during her lifetime, which will be cherished by family and friends. She also enjoyed writing her biography, which she wrote over many years, updating it on her 87th birthday. Funeral Services will be held at Cargain Funeral Home, 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY. The family will be in attendance on Wednesday, July 26, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 am on Thursday, July 27, at St. James the Apostle Church, Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, NY. Donations may be made in Helen's memory to the Kent Fire Department, 2490 Rt. 301, Carmel, NY 10512.
