Obituary of Guy Moreau

MOREAU, GuyBorn unto Alphonse and Angeline Moreau in Antler on March 30, 1942, was a farmer and his name was Guy Maurice Joseph Moreau. Guy was big brother to four sisters – Aimee, Marcia, Francine and Gisele. They grew up on [SW 36-6-31] and like generations before, this was home and the way of life. Guy started school at the convent in Bellegarde, crossing the creek every day. Learning came easy for him and he won many 1st Prize Examens de Francais de L''Association Culturelle Franco-Canadienne de la Saskatchewan. He graduated from Ecole Bellegarde in 1960. After graduating, Guy worked with his Dad on the farm and broke the land. He picked rocks on the land south, many many rocks by hand! He worked as an electrician for years at Redvers Electric with Louis and Pete Sylvester and his dad Alphonse. Guy loved attending dances in the area. It was at one of those dances in Gainsborough where Guy met a fiery red head that stole his heart. Guy and Sandra got married in Regina on April 19, 1969. Ivan came along in early 1973 and Gina joined the family in July 1975 to make the family complete. Guy and Sandra farmed with (Grandpa) Alphonse and (Grandma) Angeline until they retired. Then Ivan and Roxanne farmed for many years with Guy and Sandra. They had a mixed farm with cattle and grain for most of their farming years. Guy diversified the farm and established a feedlot. Starting with buying a few calves at farm sales in the mid-1970s, the cattle operation grew to 400 plus head in its prime. Nicholas has now taken over the family farm. Grandpa Guy would be proud that Nicholas is the fifth generation of Moreaus farming the original homestead. His heart and life were farming, the farm and more farming. His pastimes were driving through machinery lots, going to wreckers to fix his latest find at an auction sale, auction marts to buy cattle, checking crops and checking the cattle in the pasture. He would travel miles to get the best deal if it meant saving a dollar on parts (regardless of the cost to get there). You could go to any dealership/wrecker in a 300-mile radius and you could bet someone would know his name. He loved to visit and was always sure to tell a tall tale of some sort to get a laugh. Guy''s laugh would fill a room as would his personality! He continued to farm until mini strokes started his dementia in 2010. He always knew how to get home to the farm during those years and once he reached Bellegarde. Sandra took care of him at home until July 2014 when he was placed in permanent care. He was in Moosomin in Poppy Place until he passed on December 24. He is now home with his beloved Sandra; dad Alphonse; mom Angeline; sister Aimee and her husband Sid Ameel; brother-in-law Gilles Blezy; niece Tina Martin; parents-in-law Russel and Hazel Raeburn; and sister-in-law Ruth and her husband Jim Packard. He is survived by his son Ivan (Roxanne) Moreau; daughter Gina (Bill) Macleod; and grandchildren: Nicholas and Robynne Moreau and Benjamin and Grady Macleod. He is also survived by his sisters: Marcia (Henry) Martin, Francine Blezy, Gisele (David) Bouchard as well as his brother-in-law Leigh (Sharon) Raeburn and numerous nieces and nephews. Donations can be made to the St. Maurice Cemetery or Redvers Health Centre in honour of Guy.
