Grover Lee Davis, 92, died Monday, June 21, 2010, in Jacksonville, Fla. Born March 23, 1918, to Laura and Grover Davis Sr., Grover grew up in Birmingham, Ala. A graduate of West End High School, Grover attended college at Birmingham Southern College. Grover proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. He was married for 62 years to Rheba Gillespie Davis, who preceded him in death. Grover worked many years for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. After his retirement from HUD, he joined with others to form Johnson and Associates Mortgage Company. At the age of 86, Grover relocated to Port St. Joe, Fla., where he spent his retirement years. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Stroer; son-in-law, William Stroer; granddaughter, Sara Stroer; grandson, Brian Stroer; and brother, Judson Crockett. A graveside service for Grover will begin at 1 p.m. CDT Friday, June 25, 2010, at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Ala.
