Grace Davis, born in 1919, spouse of Donald Davis, daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth, died on August 17, 2013. Please consult the obituary here:
DAVIS, Grace Bowness (Powell)January 30, 1919 - August 17, 2013HEAVEN welcomes a new soprano! Amazing Grace… how sweet the sound. Grace died in the arms of family and was loved till her last breath. We are thankful that she suffers no more. Moms' health declined rapidly since February; she faced the challenges and pain with dignity, humor and patience. Mom was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1980, her parents, Lewis and Elizabeth Powell, and her sisters Irene (Frank), Mary and Elsie )Bill). Mom is survived by her daughters Leslie Shupe (Ed) and Lindsie Seed (Walter), by her grandchildren Corey, Calvin, Shawna (Cam), Darian (Craig), and Griffin (Krystle) and by her great-grandchildren, Noah, Emily, Meaghan, Adria, Adison and great grandchild #6 due in November which she was very excited about! Mom was born, raised and educated in Vancouver. She attended Business School, becoming a secretary and she applied her skills in the family business, McLean and Powell Iron Works. That is where she met Dad, a salesman at the time. Dad began his career at the foundry and they were married on September 30, 1944. Mom and Dad lived in Vancouver and Burnaby, moving to Langley in 1969 after Dad retired. Mom had a heart for those in need; she knit dozens of warm winter hats, donating them to the Salvation Army Gateway of Hope. Mom loved to sing! She enjoyed performing and touring with her last beloved choir, The Rainbow Choir. Mom was mainly a stay-at-home mom. She sewed, did needlework, crocheting, knitting and baking. She happily baked her amazing pies for friends until last year. She made great jam; two of her great-grandchildren lovingly called her "Great Grandma Jam". Mom loved chocolate and ice cream, enjoying those until her last week of life. She loved the color blue, sweet peas, crossword puzzles, a good book, a visit to a wool shop and a rainy day. Mom was in the hospital for many months this year and on June 26, Mom moved into Simpson Manor in Fort Langley, where she was cared for with dignity, respect and love by the staff. We thank everyone there for the wonderful care they gave Mom. There is a tea in Mom's honor on Saturday, September 21 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Moms' home at 20024 Fernridge Cres. in Langley. Please come and share your memories. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Mom's name to the Salvation Army Gateway of Hope in Langley or to the Union Gospel Mission in Vancouver would be appreciated. Thank you, Mom, for your enduring love and patience. We love you, miss you and will try always to make you proud of us as we go on without you.
