Gladys Williams Collins SOUTH PORTLAND -- Gladys was born May 1, 1919, in Tallmadge, one of seven brothers and sisters of Andrew and Eva Yates Williams. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1935 as Salutatorian of her class, and then from Northeastern Business College in 1936, majoring in Secretarial Studies. She was then employed in the Research and Engineering Division at Saco-Lowell Shops in Biddeford as a private secretary until the birth of her first son in 1942. She then did public stenography work from her home while raising her two sons. Gladys returned to work as a secretary to the President at Southern Maine Technical College, now Southern Maine Community College, where she served for 27 years. She was married to Raymond S. Dewey in 1938 until his death in 1962, and then married Beverly (Spike) Collins in 1964. Following their retirement they remained in South Portland, and wintered in Winter Haven, Fla. She is survived by two sons, R. Andrew Dewey of Glendale, Ariz., and Roger Dewey of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; grandchildren Erik Dewey of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Jillian Dewey of Fairfax, Va.; and great-grandchildren Hope and Piers Dewey. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland, where a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19.
