BROOKS Gladys Clare Brooks, age 99, formerly of Bridgeport, died Saturday, August 21, 2004 at St. Joseph Manor, Trumbull. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late James R. and Clara Knowles Brooks and was a lifelong resident. She was a retired bookkeeper and she along with her sister operated the Christian Store in the Bridgeport Arcade for many years. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield; and was a member of their sewing circle; and was a volunteer of many social events. Survivors include her devoted nephew, Theodore S. Brooks and his wife, Nancy of West Hurley, N.Y.; a grandniece, Tracy Brooks Butler of Hyde Park, N.Y.; grandnephews, Geoffrey S. Brooks of Niskayuna, N.Y. and Christopher D. Brooks of Shokan, N.Y.; and many cousins in Pennsylvania and England; and many great-grandnieces and nephews. She is also survived by her church family of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairfield. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Norman C. Brooks and her sister, Gertrude E. Brooks. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford with the Rev. Dr. Edward Duffy, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to services.
