Mrs. Gertrude Brown Carter, 95, of Hiawassee, formerly of Gainesville, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at the Chatuge Medical Center in Hiawassee. A native of Hall County, Mrs. Carter was the daughter of the late Wallace Minor and Frances Conley Brown. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hiawassee United Methodist Church. Before moving to Hiawassee after the death of her husband, Mr. H. Cecil Carter, Mrs. Carter was a member of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church. She was very active in the women's group there. A graduate of Brenau College, Mrs. Carter enjoyed her hobbies of needlework and bridge. Her greatest loves were her husband and family. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Neal and Gloria Carter, York, Pa.; Conley and Jane Carter, Hiawassee; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Wayne Buchanan, Hiawassee; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at the Alta Vista Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Blair will officiate. The family will receive friends at Mason & Ward Funeral Home, 1190 McEver Road from 11:15 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, 2007.
