BROOKFIELD - Gerard "GG" LaRocque, 76, of West Street in Brookfield, passed away from a sudden illness Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was born June 1, 1938, in Randolph, Vermont, the son of Adam and Enneme (Lamontagne) LaRocque. GG married Melanie Chase on November 26, 1960, and he lived in Brookfield most of his life. GG worked 43 years, starting in 1956 for the Central Vermont Railway and the New England Central Railway, retiring in 1999. In earlier days, after putting in a full day's work on the railroad, he would spend hours thawing frozen water pipes for the Town of Randolph. He also filled his spare time steam cleaning the vacuum pipes for a few local friends' dairy farms. He enjoyed winter and plowing at least 22 driveways in the winter months. For the past 16 years, GG mowed the roadside for the Town of Brookfield. GG loved being on his tractor rototilling and brush hogging for people around town. He also did caretaking of homes for several people in the area. He always enjoyed stopping by friends' homes or work to visit and catch up on the local "happenings" of the town. He enjoyed having his family visit, especially the little ones as they were the apple of his eye. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Melanie; daughters Paula and her companion, Keith Washburn, and Cathy and her husband, Mike MacRitchie; son Dennis and his companion, Emily Noyes; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Tylor) Rancourt, Nikki, Erin and Elizabeth Saldi, Kyle LaRocque, Taylor MacRitchie, Beckett and Boden Noyes; four great-grandchildren, Eli Saldi, Violet and Warden Rancourt and Bently LaRocque; sister Jeannine and husband Gordon Murphy, and a brother, Fernand LaRocque; numerous nieces, nephews and brothers- and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, John and Roger LaRocque. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 3, 2014, from noon to 4 p.m. at his home, 2294 West St., Brookfield, Vermont, 05036.
