Geraldine-Coker Smith, born in 1925, spouse of William-Edward Smith, daughter of Theo and Pauline-McNair, mother of Michael, Dianne, Kansas, Catz and Richard, died on October 4, 2009 at 84 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Geraldine (Jerry) Coker Smith, born Sept. 14, 1925, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on Oct. 4, 2009. She was 84. Born in Magee, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Theo Coker and Pauline McNair Simmons. She had resided in Gainesville for the past 13 years, where she had logged thousands of hours as a volunteer at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. She was a member of the Pilot Club and the Georgia Mountain Players, where she spent many hours volunteering at the season ticket desk. Before retiring in Gainesville, she worked 24 years in property management in Melbourne, Fla., Houston, Texas, and Denver, Colo. Prior to that, she owned Coker's House of Fabrics in Fredrick, Md. Before moving to Maryland she worked as a dental hygienist in Dothan, Ala. In her early years, she was a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Shreveport, La. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Smith. Survivors include, son and daughter-in-law, Richard Smith and Catz McLean of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Michael Martin of Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, John and Fran Coker of Myersville, Md.; grandchildren, Michelle Martin, Kym Maddox; and grandson-in-law, Mickey Maddox; great-grandchildren, Alex Maddox, Lauren Maddox and Jarod Maddox, all of Gainesville. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home and graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 in Magee Cemetery in Magee, Miss. Flowers are welcome or donations to the Georgia Mountain Players for Relay For Life, P.O. Box 2341, Gainesville, GA 30503 or Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice, 2150 Limestone Pkwy., Suite 115, Gainesville, GA 30501-2567.
