Gerald Robert Johnson lived in Port Henry, NY and Grantham, NH Burlington, VT Gerald Robert Johnson, died at the age of 79 at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vermont on August 7, 2008 following a short illness, with loved ones at his side. Jerry lived in Port Henry, NY and Grantham, NH. Jerry, the youngest son of Francis Johnson and Sarah Ferguson Vanderhoof Johnson, was born on December 15, 1928 in Port Henry, New York. While lifeguarding as a teenager he met Joan Rae Hubbard; they married in 1949. He is survived by his wife Joan Johnson who resides at Wheelock Terrace in Hanover, NH, children Brenda Johnson of Grantham, NH, Dianne Yelton and her husband Everett of Londonderry, VT, Christopher Johnson and his wife Nibal of Lunenburg, MA and Mark Johnson of Fitchburg, MA, and six grandchildren, Michael Johansson, Christopher Gibson, Dianne Johnson, Jerett Yelton, Allison Yelton and Sarah Johnson. For fifty years, Jerry raised his family and lived in North Springfield, Vermont owning and operating his own business, Mercury Dry Cleaners. He was a staunch believer in community support, always an eager volunteer and participant in the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Springfield VT Zoning Board, Port Henry Historical Society, and the Rotary Club's Jimmy Fund softball benefits. His recent years were spent in his home town of Port Henry, and with his wife and children in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He was remarkable for his good nature, generosity, hard work and devotion to his family, faith and community. He also loved sports, playing and coaching baseball and basketball and watching especially those that his children and grandchildren enjoyed. He was an avid pinochle player, a smooth dancer, and entertaining storyteller. He was active for many years in the Springfield, VT United Methodist Church, and regularly attended churches wherever he went. His greatest joy in recent years was visiting family and connecting with people at senior centers in Port Henry, NY and Lebanon and New London, NH. JOHNSON Services will be held on August 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Moriah Presbyterian Church in Port Henry, New York, followed by a picnic and celebration at the Crown Point Historical Site Pavilion, 739 Bridge Rd, Crown Point, NY.
