The memorial service for Hearst resident Georgina Anne (nee Erickson) Dumont, 60, of 823 Front St. was held Dec. 6, 2003. She died Dec. 2 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a several-month illness. Born June 2, 1943 in London, Ont., she moved to Cochrane at age three and then to Hearst in 1965, where she and then-husband Ben Filion ran a minnow business. A published poet, woman of faith, and a regular of the Chez Grand-maman restaurant mid-afternoon coffee circle, she enjoyed animals (especially cats), knitting Christmas items for family, going to bake sales, and laughing at a good joke. Published in the Northern Times' November 2000 Remembrance section, her poems "The Fighting Soldier" and "A Mother's Soldier Boy" were based on wartime stories passed on to her by her soldier dad, grandfather and uncle, as well as other relatives. An award-winning poem was published in the anthology "Rhymes and Reason", edited by J. Randle. Predeceased by her father Charles in 1978 and a brother Garfield in 1998, both in Cochrane, she is survived by her mother Isobel (nee Glover) Erickson of the Hearst Foyer des Pionniers Home, daughters Ruth (Jean Claude Tremblay) Filion of St-Eustache, Que., Darlene (Michel) Thibeault of Kapuskasing, Leona (Daniel Roy) Roy Filion, Terri (Claude Cossette) Filion Cossette, and Brenda (fiance Séan Clancy), and sons John and Randy Filion, all of Hearst. Also surviving are former husbands Benoît Filion of Hearst and Guy Dumont of Cochrane, four granddaughters and two grandsons, aunts and uncles, and three nieces and a nephew. Rev. Mike Burt directed the morning service at New Life Assembly (Pentecostal) Church, including singing of "Amazing Grace" and "What a Friend We Have a Jesus" and his tribute to the deceased. Eulogies were delivered by Ginette Blais and Anne Siska. Ms Blais also read Ms Dumont's poem "A Matter of Time" and Sandra Fournier, Psalm 23. Interment will be at the Cochrane Civic Cemetery.
