Abell, Georgette MelcherSept. 11, 1923 - April 16, 2012Georgette Melcher Abell, 88, died at her home in Sarasota, Fla., on April 16, 2012. Mrs. Abell, born on Sept. 11, 1923, in Paris, was raised in France and the Azores. She is survived by four children, 11 grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren: a son, Edward Welch-Abell, of Oak Island, N.C.; a daughter, Louise A. Huin, of Sarasota, Fla.; a second son, Christopher R. Abell, of Sewickley, Pa.; and a second daughter, Sally Abell-Smith, of Pleasantville, N.Y.; grandchildren Darren and Bryan Welch, Lauren Lazar, Alexandre Huin, Sarah Lamar, Rachel, Gregory, Matthew and Genevieve Abell, and Chelsea and Harrison Smith. Multi-lingual, Mrs. Abell came to the United States to begin a career with Air France before marrying her husband, Walter R. Abell, Jr., and devoting herself to raising her family in Woodbury, N.Y., before moving to Sarasota. A world-wide traveler renowned for her many talents, she was admired by all for her beauty, her style and elegance, her generous heart, and her joie de vivre.
