George W. "Smitty" Smith, 81, passed peacefully from this life Monday, December 3, 2007. Born and raised in North Carolina, Mr. Smith served in the Navy during World War II. After the service, he became a truck driver working various jobs from logging to propane for 40 years until injuring his back. He made the best boiled peanuts in Volusia County. Fishing was his passion as well as time spent with his grandchildren. Smitty was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Juanita. Survivors include his two sons,Wayne Smith, Holly Hill, and Thomas Smith, Barton; two daughters, Brenda K. Lockwood, Ormond Beach, and Sandra Hislop, Gainesville; nine grandchildren, Theresa Steele, Brenita Allen, Thomas Smith, Becky Smith, Michael Smith, Wayne Smith Jr., Melissa Decker, Corey Lockwood and Kyle Lockwood; nine great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Mariah, Mathew, Xavier, Landon, Logan, Alex, Kylie and Kenna; three sisters, Linda, Viola and Nita; four brothers, Andrew, David, Roy and Kenneth. Papa, we love and miss you. Family and friends will gather at 2379 Old Tomoka Rd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174 at 12 noon Saturday to share and remember Smitty.
