STATESBORO, Ga. - Commissioner George T. Jackson, age 57, passed into rest Sunday, January 24, 2010, at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The Bulloch County native was a graduate of the William James High School class of 1970. He attended Savannah State College and Georgia Southern College. Sergeant Jackson's early law enforcement career began with the Bulloch County Sheriff's Department. He ended his law enforcement career by retiring from the Georgia State Patrol Post 45 as assistant post commander on July 31, 2009. Sgt. Jackson served the counties of Screven, Fulton, Madison and Bulloch. He also taught the Driver's Safety Education Program for many years. Mr. Jackson was currently serving his second term as county commissioner of Bulloch County. He also served as chairman of the Bulloch Democratic Party, president of the Noon Day Lions Club, a member of the Food Bank and a board member of the Coastal Development Center. He was also a member of the Johnson Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Portal, where he was on the board of deacons. Memories are left to be cherished by a loving, devoted wife, Theresa S. Jackson, Statesboro, Ga.; daughters, Nikeya Jackson, Jacksonville, N.C., Brandi Jackson, Warner Robins, Ga.; stepsons, Anthony D. (Sabrina) Tremble, Augusta, Ga., and Michael J. (Sylvia) Tremble, Statesboro, Ga.; his mother and father, C.J. and Bernese Jackson, Statesboro, Ga.; brothers, Charlie Jackson, Norris (Teresa) Jackson and Tharon (Debra) Jackson, all of Statesboro, Ga., and Curtis (Veronica) Jackson, Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Pastor Gwendolyn (Bishop Larry) Jones, Statesboro, Ga.; an aunt, Georgia Mae Lundy, Statesboro, Ga.; six grandchildren, Cameron Jackson, Britney Tremble, Brianna Lavalle, Ryan Tremble, Myriah Tremble and Samiya Tremble; one great-grandson, Kobe Jackson; a host of other relatives and friends. Family visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 7-8 p.m. in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill's Mortuary, Inc. The funeral service for Commissioner George T. Jackson will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Highway 24 East, with the Rev. Harry J. Tremble Jr., pastor, and the Rev. John C. Newkirk, eulogist. Burial will be held in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners, Georgia State Patrol officers, all law enforcement, city officials and deacons of the Johnson Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
