Born in Everett, Pennsylvania, and raised in Herndon, Virginia, he shared 72 years with the love of his life, Estelle Starr. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy, and upon retirement completed a second career at American Cyanamid. After those two careers, he and Estelle opened an African Violet business, "Violets from the Starrs," to develop, show and sell violets. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Margaret; his sons, Leon, Barton and Nealon (and their wives, children and grandchildren). A more loving, caring and gentle man cannot be found. The celebration of his life will be held at Faith Chapel South, Thursday, October 2, at 11:00 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Ron Lentine will be officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. George was a long-time member and deacon at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.
