George "Butch" Smith, of 7 Hillhouse St., died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at his home. He was employed with Burke Lee-State Farm Insurance Agency, and was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors: A daughter, Julia Byrd, of Piedmont; a son, James Byrd, of Greenville; mother, Bessie Smith, of Greenville; a brother, James Smith, of Mauldin; and four grandchildren. Service: 12 p.m. Friday at Watkins Garrett & Woods Mortuary. Burial: Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family is at 120 Courtneybrook Trail, Mauldin.
