Obituary of George-S. Matthews

George S. Matthews, 93, of Muscle Shoals, died Oct. 11, 2006.Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at Colbert Memorial Chapel, Tuscumbia. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield. Officiating will be Dr. Johnny Johnston.Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Basden, and seven siblings.He was a member of Avalon Baptist Church. He was owner of Matthews Masonry Contractors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jimmie Nell Matthews; son, George M. Matthews, of Muscle Shoals; daughter, Donna and husband, Mike Reeves, of Sheffield; son-in-law, Ray Basden, of Tuscumbia; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.Pallbearers will be Larry Barnes, Barry Basden, Brett Basden, Mike Reeves, Ronny Poag and Ray Basden.Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Whitten and the men's Sunday school class of Avalon Baptist Church.Colbert Memorial Chapel, of Tuscumbia, is directing.
