ObituaryGEORGE ROBERT JACKSON (Bob) G. Robert Jackson, age 93, passed away on Friday morning, February 17, 2006 at the Groton Nursing Facility. Bob was born on June 29, 1912 in Gouverneur, NY. He was the second child of Ernest W. Jackson and Nellie Hill Jackson.He attended Gouverneur, Hunts Corners and Marathon schools. He was employed at the Town of Lapeer and at Gutchess Lumber Company as a yard hand and driver. He retired in 1977 after over forty-three years of dedicated service at Gutchess Lumber Co. He founded Hill Crest Kart Course in McLean, NY and he and his family held races there for many years.He was a past Governor of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1512 in Cortland, NY and was a lifetime member. During this time, Bob participated in horseshoe pitching tournaments and became well-known for his multiple ringers. His other interests included hunting, fishing and playing pool. He attended Groton City Congregational Church and the First Christian Church of Zephyrhills, FL.Bob is survived by his children and their spouses, A. Neil Jackson and Lucy of Cortland, John and Sue Jackson of Groton, Robert and Ellen Jackson of Freeville, Donna and Harry Cooper of Newfield and Thomas and Karel Jackson of Groton; grandchildren, Richard Olmstead, Laurie Nolan, Bradley Olmstead, Susan Smith, William Olmstead Jr., Dawn Olmstead; Ronald Jackson, Randy Jackson; Marschelle Snyder, Rhonda Saulsbury, Julie Carpenter, Gary Jackson, Daniel Jackson, MaryEllen Brokaw, Michael Jackson; Garry Cooper, Chris-Anne Reynolds, Jeffrey Cooper; Timothy Jackson, Lamont Jackson and Amber Hall; many great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; nephew, Richard Abbott; sister-in-law, Jane Jennings; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend of sixty-nine years, Orma Mary Jackson, in 2002; son, Ronald L. Jackson; daughter, Marcia L. Olmstead; sister, Ethelyn Abbott; niece, Shirley Abbott; brother-in-law, Harry McIntyre; and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Doty.Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Avenue, Groton. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
