George-R. Jackson, born in 1921, father of George R. Jackson, Tucson, Ariz, Cliff, Cathy, Ormond and Gail, died on March 2, 2006 at 85 years old.
Dr. George R. Jackson, 85, died peacefully Thursday, March 2, 2006. Dr. Jackson was a World War II Navy veteran, chemistry professor and businessman. A Florida resident since 1969, he retired to Daytona Beach in 1978. He served on the board of the Unitarian Society, was active in the Halifax Democratic Club, and volunteered with Volusia County Mediation Services and SCORE Counselors to America's Small Business. With a vision of peace and opportunity for all people, he sponsored a Russian student from Siberia to attend college in Florida. For many years, Jackson played golf at Riviera Country Club, enjoyed playing duplicate bridge, and loved singing in the choir. He was predeceased by Laura Jackson, his wife of 60 years, and is survived by his son, George R. Jackson III, Tucson, Ariz.; his son, Cliff Jackson and his wife, Cathy Jackson, Ormond Beach; daughter, Gail Hankinson, and her husband, John Hankinson, St. Augustine; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held by the family. Donations may be made to the Unitarian Society, 56 N. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach.
