Obituary of George-N. -Campbell Sr

George N. Campbell Sr. BREWER -- George Nelson Campbell Sr. passed away on May 13, 2012, in Bangor after a brief illness and was surrounded, as he was in life, by his family. Patriarch and loving husband of 62 years, George was a devoted father, always resolute and determined to do the best by family and friends. He was born on April 25, 1923, in Brewer, and he grew up as a devout Catholic, one of 11 children of Joseph and Beulah Campbell. He met and married Faith Browning, his high school sweetheart, before leaving to serve in World War II. George fought in the European Theater and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. Upon return to Maine, he and Faith operated a food service at Eastern Fine Paper. Soon they parlayed their savings into a dairy farm in Brewer and raised their family of five sons and a daughter. He was a successful farmer and businessman, who founded and ran Campbell Construction for many years. Retiring to Florida, George never changed his Maine residency, always returning to Maine for many months of the year. He proudly sported Maine State plate number 8C on his cars representing himself, Faith, and their six children. Thanks to his dear friend and companion, Madeline 'Maggie' Kelley of Caribou, assisted by Charles Milan III of Brewer, George was able to return from Florida to his home soil of Maine for his last days. The family is grateful for their constant care and support, especially to Maggie for helping him remain independent and self-sufficient for the past four years. His forgiving heart, wisdom, and love will be missed by all who knew and survived him. Among those are his two brothers, John and Irwin and their wives, Virginia and Grace, his sisters, Eileen Jensen and Elizabeth 'Libby' Moore; his six children, George Campbell Jr. of Portsmouth, N.H., Eddie Campbell of Brewer, Shirley Grover and her husband Ricky of Brewer, Bill Campbell and his wife Sue Ellen of Bethel, Ohio, Jeff Campbell and his wife Brenda of Eliot and Brian Campbell and his wife Marsha of Belmont, N.H.; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as many dearly loved nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 531 North Main St., Brewer. Burial will be afterward at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, for both George and Faith. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. In lieu of flowers, please keep our Dad in your prayers and make a donation in his name to the ;(function() { var adKeyValue = 't='; adKeyValue+= escape('clio=COYCAHA'); adKeyValue += escape('&cobrand=mainetoday-pressherald'); adKeyValue += escape('&linktext=charity of your choice'); adKeyValue += escape('&linkurl=http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/mainetoday-pressherald/condolences-charities.aspx?keyword=coycaha&pid=157677025'); adKeyValue += escape('&fn=George'); adKeyValue += escape('&ln=Campbell'); var adClkUrl = 'http://pubads.g.doubleclick.net/gampad/jump?iu=/423686928/prod/obit-aff/obit-standard/clio-inline-1&' + adKeyValue + '&sz=1x1&c=607157866'; var adImpUrl = 'http://pubads.g.doubleclick.net/gampad/ad?iu=/423686928/prod/obit-aff/obit-standard/clio-inline-1&' + adKeyValue + '&sz=1x1&c=607157866'; document.write("<a href='" + adClkUrl + "' target=_blank>charity of your choice<" + 'img' + " src='" + adImpUrl + "' style='width=1px; height=1px; display:inline;' /></a>"); }());.
