McKENZIE, H. GeorgeSeptember 3, 1945 - Saint-Jean-Sur Richelieu, QuebecAugust 17, 2013 - Calgary, AlbertaGeorge was an accomplished lawyer (with appearances before the Supreme Court), an avid and active sportsman (Vanier Cup champion, expert skier, and golfer with multiple holes-in-one to his credit), a dulcet- toned singer (barbershop bass extraordinaire and holiday season Pavarotti), but most importantly a caring and devoted family man. He passed away with his family by his side, sharing treasured music and memories. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Patricia (Coghlan), his children Bryan and Sarah, and his adored grandchildren Abigail, Benjamin and Andrew. He also leaves behind his sister Charlotte, brother Raymond and legions of friends and relatives that meant the world to him, as he meant a lot to them. Cancer ended George's life but never dampened his humour, his spirits, or his love for his family and friends. The family would like to thank his doctors, nurses and caregivers at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for the care he received through his illness and the staff at the Sarcee Hospice for his peaceful final days. Above all, George loved his grandchildren. If desired, memorial donations can be made in his honour to the Alberta Children's Hospital (www.childrenshospital.ab.ca) or the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (www.cheo.on.ca) to ensure that others can experience the same joy of being a grandparent. The family would also ask that you consider making a blood donation in memory of George as he received many transfusions through his treatment (www.blood.ca). George will be remembered in both Calgary and Ottawa so that all who loved him will have the opportunity to celebrate his life. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. He will also be remembered at a memorial reception in Ottawa on August 27 at 3:30 p.m. at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club at 1405 Aylmer Road, Gatineau, Quebec. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of George McKenzie, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
