SMITH George Malcolm Smith, 86, passed away Friday, August 23, 2002 in Orange Park, FL. He served in the U.S. Navy for 32 years as a Dentist/ Oral Surgeon. George was member of Orange Park United Methodist Church. He was an avid bridge player, Jaguars fan and Red Sox fan. Mr. Smith was a graduate of the University of Connecticut (1934-1937) and the University of Indiana Dental School (1937-1941). George did his internship at the Rhode Island Hospital. In the Navy he served from 1941-1973 as a Dental officer and worked in New Mexico in Public Health from 1973-1979. The fraternities he was a member of included Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Psi Omega. Some of the interesting tours Mr. Smith took while on active duty was NATO, Newport Naval Hospital, Bethesda Naval Hospital, Marine Air Group 25, Carrier-USS Palau, Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Patuxent NAS and Iwakuni, Japan. Mr. Smith was pre-deceased by his parents, Harry Malcolm Smith, Winifred Moody Smith and his son, Don Malcolm Smith. He is survived by his wife, Jane Page Smith; daughter, Barbara Jane Smith; son-in-law, Gary A. Smith; four grandchildren and their spouses and six great grandsons. Funeral services will be held 2PM Thursday, August 29, 2002 at JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME 111 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, FL 32073 with Rev. Jerry Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at the address above.
