George-M. -Scott Sr, born in 1997, spouse of Marie Mantore, father of Patricia, Albert, Sheila, Ralph and George M. Scott, died on December 15, 2012 at 15 years old.
George M. Scott Sr., 82, of the Holiday City section of Berkeley Township, N.J., died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Community Medical Center, Toms River, N.J. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River, N.J. The funeral service will take place 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ryanfuneralhome.com Born in Dundee, Scotland, George lived in Bloomfield, N.J., before moving to Toms River 15 years ago. George served in the U.S. Marine Corps, First Marine Brigade 5th Regiment, as a machine gunner during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir where they landed at Pusan Perimeter and fought through Chinese Encirclement to the Historic Chosin Reservoir in 1950. George attained the rank of sergeant and was a Purple Heart recipient. Scotty, as he was known to friends and family, went on to become a printer for the Utility Printing Company, Newark, N.J., for 45 years, retiring in 1995. Scotty was an avid sports fan of the Mets, Islanders and Giants. He also played competitive softball for many years as a short stop. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie (Mantore) Scott, in 2007; his brothers, Ramsey and William Scott, and his granddaughter, Deanna. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia and her husband, Albert DelTufo, Sheila and her husband, Ralph Murrieta; his sons, George M. Scott Jr. and his wife, Jeanette, and Craig Scott and his wife, Dawn; his brother, Jack Scott; his sisters, Jean Russo and Mildred Moccio; grandchildren, Tarrah, Daniele, Michael, Craig Jr. and Kevin, and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Carlee, Aiden, Brody, Adyson and Austin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Medical Center Van Dyke Hospice, 99 Route 37, West Toms River, N.J.
